Firstly, it looks AMAZING!

It's been getting updates/improvements for the past five years, and is now fully functional.

It features...

Multiplayer - It supports all multiplayer and most variant formats including as Emperor, Two Headed Dragon, Elder Dragon Highlander, Free For All, Five Color and Mental Magic. The only way to play Emperor Online.

Full Functionality - It supports all the features that other programs support, including tokens, modifiable libraries, modifiable keyboard shortcuts and such.

Fast Clean Interface - It loads in under three seconds!! Easily the fastest softward outthere for this purpose.

Modular - It can support any game you want it to, Blue Moon, WoW etc. It's not strictly restricted to MTG.

Completely Free - No Ads, No Limitations, Completely Free. All the functionality is there for everyone to use.

Frequently Updated/Improved - I checked the blog and it has had three additional features added just in the past two months. The last time Magic Workstation or Apprentice or other competing programs had an update or gained functionality was almost three years ago.

The download link for OCTGN 2.0 is here...
http://www.octgn.net/downloads.php
(Simply click "Install OCTGN 2" in Internet Explorer.)

Once you have the program itself, everything you need to download, the MTG game module, and all of the sets is right here...
http://www.mediafire.com/sets
(Get all of the sets from the O2 folder.)

If you just want to download the MTG game module by itself, the magic game definition is available at...
http://filebeam.com/bcc3b17ace45fde83ce8bee787aedf84
(Remove the .txt from the file name after downloading.)

To connect to a chatroom full of players, simply go to...

Have fun!

Once again, I'm not involved in anyway with coding the program, so please post your suggestions and feedback at either the developer blog or the forum...

Looks pretty cool, I'll check it out.

Edit: where's the installer for the thing that makes it work for Magic?

Ugh, there's a separate download for every set ever released? There's no zipped version or anything? Any way to convert the scans I already have for MWS?

Ask jods for that functionality, in the octgndev.wordpress.com link.

I'm sure he'll implement it if people ask.

PS: You can install multiple sets at the same time.

After spending about 6 hours downloading not only OCTGN, but also the game and card files to play magic, figuring out how to install the stuff and figuring out the interface, I'm going back to MWS.

I'm not looking to flame or troll anyone, but one of the main reasons I decided to give it a try is because of folks like Captain Hammer who post rave reviews about it, making it sound like a finished product.

It's not, and this is my main beef with it: it is very difficult for a new player to get games going. In order to play a game, you have to join the #octgn IRC channel server irc dot ircstorm dot net and connect directly to other people. Most of the folks in the channel know each other, and as a newb you can only get a game if someone's feeling nice or has no one else to play with.

There's no server like MWS has where you can jump on and get a quick game going.

Lastly, this quote from jods, the administrator of the forum for OCTGN said the following in a post:

>OCTGN 2 is in developement. Don't expect a big "community and >service". Currently the software is mostly for enthusiast who want to >test it and help make the program better. Right now I would advise >you to find another way to play Magic online.

Hmmm... sounds a little different from what Clark Kan posted, doesn't it?

Quite frankly, I've put about 6 hours into getting OCTGN to work, and I'm really annoyed at having had my time wasted. When it comes out of beta, I might give it a try, but in the meantime remember: It's not finished yet, and it's a giant pain to set up and get to work. I really wish someone had made that clear in the beginning.
