I think that it might be cool just to have an FNM thread in this part of the forums. This will be a place where you can share any fun stories from your local FNM whether it be play mistakes, silly anecdotes, or even just some crazy deck concoction that you or somebody else played. I can't wait to read what other people put down. I'll start it off and hopefully this catches on.
Story:
Okay so I'm playing your standard G/B Welves deck against Treefolk Doran (running Ancients and Harbingers). The game's been going on for a short time now and he's got out a Doran with two Harbingers and a Goyf as well as two Treetop Villages and Birds. I'm looking okay as I have a Llanny, Paragon, and two Vanquishers, one with a counter. His turn, he plays a Garruk, untapping and getting ready for ultimate (probably doing something with new lands aswell, I don't remember). Now I've gotta come up with an answer and here's the deal; In hand is a Paragon, Boreal, and Sudden Spoiling. I'm sitting there about to draw. Heart of the cards! I need a swamp or a Garruk of my own. Nothing... I drew a blank card as far as I was concerned, I don't remember it. It couldn't win the game. I throw down Paragon and Boreal to soak up as much damage as possible. His turn shows an animation for both Villages and a -4 from the Garruk. Then I look at his plethera of lands and there amongst them... URBORG! Urborg makes each land a swamp and, since he just attacked with everything, I could have Sudden Spoilinged his team and counter attacked for the win! Damnit!
So that's my story, I hoped you enjoyed it and, if you decide to share anything of your own, try to use somewhat of good grammer/gramour. I just helps everybody. |

| I like the forum idea, and hope it sticks. Something I was thinking would go well in this forum would be strategies and ideas on how to correctly metagame one's own FNM. I have a few friends on the PT and I've often times been struck by the differences faced by someone like myself picking a T2 deck and their decisions. The most obvious one being that they play at tournaments filled with primarily teir 1 decks. I play at tournaments where I have to combat mill strategies, LD decks, peoples pet projects and the like. I can't begin to count how many times I've taken "the best deck" to an FNM and gotten hosed because it can only really compete with teir 1 decks. So, if no one objects I'd love to start talking about all the cards that have fallen from SB grace that would be helpful to those of us who are not on the PT in emerging from our FNM with the packs and foils. |

I think that, while unfortunently in the correct place, it would recieve much more attention in the general Standard discusion forum. I think I posted the first post 3-4 months ago. _________________ 7) Sigs must be kept to five lines or less. Images in sigs must be 25 pixels high or less. |

i think that all that is really needed here is on friday night after fnm (or sat morning) just post what decks made top-8 or top-4. that will kind of let people know what is doing well and where its doing well at.
ill start the trend after tomorrows fnm _________________ I'm sorry, but Progenitus has protection from your library, so you are not able to play it. sorry.... |

From the last FNM I went to.
QuillCombo Rock
Fairies
5 Color Control
I don't rember the fourth deck though. Faries and I intentially drew but I beat him 2-1 in games for fun afterward. I'll play it out next time. I don't remember if the 5CC player had Cruels or not but what's it matter. It might've even been planeswalker. I really just know who the player was. I'm shady on deck contents but it was most likely 5CC. _________________ 7) Sigs must be kept to five lines or less. Images in sigs must be 25 pixels high or less. |

I don't have any decklists for this post, but I do have a funny story that could pretty much only happen at an FNM.
We just got our FNM sanction for the local shop, so many casual players and people who "quit" have renewed their interest in the game now that it's so close. I was judging and as soon as pack one was opened I got a judge call from a player who had last played when Temple Garden was a money rare. I went over and asked what the problem was. The kid looked at me real confusedly and asked "So is this thing a creature or what?" And showed me the foil Elspeth he had opened. Not a bad rip for your first draft since Ravnica block. _________________ I run/judge events in Central PA. If you live in the area, ask for details.
